VENUS & THE APIS

Venus & the Apis is my second comic, which is slightly different from my first in that it only has the barest hint of science fiction. Venus & the Apis follows an anthropomorphic bee with horrible directional skills on her first night out of the hive to pollinate flowers. Like my first, this comic is jam-packed with false advertisements and my comic ‘host’/ artist persona, Ann Drew. With this comic, I wanted to focus on a straightforward and easy-to-follow storyline. I was interested in controlling how a viewer’s eye moves over a page, and I wanted to hone in on my black and white illustration skills. Doing this forced me to sit with every page and panel for a long time. Each page took me around five to a week to create and fully render. This comic took me around 10 months to develop, render, and publish.
